Legend and History of Narapura Venkateswara Swamy Temple
According to local legend, a devotee named Narapuraiah had a divine dream in which Lord Sri Venkateswara appeared and revealed the location of His idol on the banks of the Penna River. Guided by this vision, Narapuraiah, along with fellow villagers, searched the riverbank near Jammalamadugu town and discovered the idol. He then installed it on a sand heap to the north of the town — an event that gave the temple its name, Narapura Venkateswara Swamy Temple.
Temple wall inscriptions indicate that the shrine consecrated by Narapuraiah was later renovated in 1919 with the support of local devotees. The temple came under the administration of TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) on 23 October 2008, after which all poojas and rituals began to be conducted strictly as per Pancharatra Agama traditions.
