Yaganti is one of the most famous Shiva Temple in Andhra Pradesh. Sri Yaganti Uma Maheswara Temple is one of the few temples patronized by one of the great dynasties of India. The temple dates back to 5th and 6th centuries with contributions from Pallavas, Cholas, Chalukyas and Vijayanagara rulers. The other important deities worshiped here in the Yaganti temple are Goddess Parvati and the huge Nandi idol that has grown its size over time.

The Yaganti temple received a significant contribution from Vijayanagara Kings Harihara & Bukka Rayalu, who finished the construction of several structures in and around the temple. The Uma Maheshwara Temple at Yaganti houses the idol of Shiva & Parvathi (Ardhanareeswara) carved out of a single stone. Agastya Cave, Lord Venkateshwara cave, Rokalla caves, Sanka caves and Pothuluri Veera Brahmam Cave main attractions to Yagant temple.

Yaganti is located in Yerramala hills that offer immense natural beauty and unique setting to the locality. There are several natural caves in the hills around the temple which were home for several saints throughout the ages, including that of Great Telugu saint and astrologer Potuluri Veera Brahmam Garu. An amazing feature of this temple is its Pushkarini with very pure water. No one knows how the water flows into Pushkarini in all the seasons. Devotees consider that a bath in the holy Pushkarini before visiting Shiva is highly beneficial. Yaganti Nandi Story:

Nandi at the entrance is believed to have been growing in size ever since it was installed here when the temple was built. Interestingly, unlike Nandis in Shiva Temples, the Yaganti Nandi is not seated exactly opposite to the main idol in the sanctum sanctorum, this Nandi is located in a mandapa to the side.

Most interesting part of Yaganti Nandi was sculptured on a single rock and is growing by an inch over the span of 20 years. The information board says that the Nandi grows an inch every 20 years and that 90 years ago people could circumambulate the Nandi on all four sides. Today, the Nandi blocks the entire mandapa and looks like he is struggling to find space within the confines of the pillars. The temple priests go a step further and tell you that the Nandi shall then go and eat up all the grass around Yaganti before the world comes to an end.

Andhra state Tourism department provides various accommodation services There are limited facilities to stay in Yagati. There is only one basic hotel with AC and non AC rooms.APTDC is offering limited cottage facility for the visitors at Yaganti, but you can also consider staying in Nandyal, Kurnool or Anantapur. Brahmini Residency Cell: 9180011129, 9963150097. If you are going on a weekend, book your room in advance due to heavy rush. The best place with accommodation is Kurnool. Banaganapalle, which is the nearest town 17 kms away has basic places to stay. check various best places near Kurnool.

Private accommodation is also available for those who want to stay here. On mondays crowd gathered and performed special poojas. Shivarathri is celebrated and a large number of devotees from all over the state. on shivaratri festival occasion Free lunch and dinner are provided by the temple. The best time to visit Yaganti is from October to March while the Peak Season is from February to March. Usually it takes half day to visit Yaganti. you can check crowd status online

Yaganti Temple caves are also remarkable about the place. devotees can seen three different caves.

Agastya Cave: Agastya performed the holy sacrament here for Lord Shiva. The shrine for Goddess Parvati is also located here and one has to climb 120 steps to reach the entrance to the temple.
Sri Venkateswara Cave: The distorted idol of Lord Vishnu can be seen here and it is a popular belief that this idol was carved preceding the arrival of Lord Venkateswara Swamy onto Tirumala Seven hills.
Sri Potuluri Veera Brahman Cave: Sri Potuluri Veera Brahman ( Veera Brahmendra Swamy) spent some of his time and that’s why the cave has been named so.
