About Sri Guru Raghavendra swamy:
Sri Raghavendra Swamy was born as Sri Venkata Natha, the second son of Sri Thimanna Bhatta and Smt. Gopikamba on the Shukla Navami Tithi (Thursday) of Phalguna month in 1595 at Bhuvanagiri near present-day Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu. Sri Raghavendra Swamy learned Dwaita Vedanta, Grammar, and other literary works under his guru, Sri Sudheendra Theertha. He was well versed in Bhashyas and usually participated in debates against renowned and reputed scholars. He was a very brilliant scholar from a very young age. He was also very proficient at playing Veena. He was married to Saraswathi Bai in the year 1614. He had a son Sri Lakshminarayanacharya.
Shri Raghavendra Swamy is said to have performed many miracles during his lifetime and has a large following even today. Mantralayam is a small and peaceful town situated on the banks of the River Tungabhadra and gets thousands of devotees from all over the country.
Shri Raghavendra Swamy was the disciple and the successor of Sri Sudheendra Theertharu of Kumbakonam, who taught him Dwaita Vedanta, grammar, and ancient literary works, and Vedic texts. All these brought Venkatanatha to the notice of Sudhindra Thirtha, the pontiff of the then Kumbakonam Madhva mutt. Deeply impressed with the brilliance of this youngster and the spiritual aura that he exuded the pontiff wanted Venkatanatha to succeed him as the head of the mutt.

The Mantralayam Temple, located on the banks of river Tungabhadra, is dedicated to Saint Raghavendra Swamy, where his Brindavan, the sacred tomb, is worshipped as the presiding deity. The Mantralayam Temple is not only a memorial of Saint Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy but is also worshiped Lord Hari, Vayu, as well as Rayaru. It houses three spectacular chariots that are made with sandalwood and have been adorned with fresh and bright flowers.
As per the religious customs, the deities are placed on the chariots, and the procession is taken around the temple. Mantralayam is also popular for Manchalamma Temple located near the Samadhi Temple, inside the Mantralayam Mutt complex. It is a custom at Mantralayam that the devotees offer prayers at the Manchalamma Temple before visiting the Samadhi Temple. As per records, the barren land around Mantralayam along the river banks of Tungabhadra was handed over to the Mutt of Sri Raghavendra Swamy by Nawab Siddi Masud Khan of Adoni.

Dress Code: The male devotees who want to perform Pooja themselves have to wear dhoti. While male devotees paying normal visits have to remove their shirts and female devotees have to wear Sarees or other traditional cloths.
Accommodation: Accommodation is provided by the Mutt near the temple and room charges vary between Rs. 200 to Rs. 1000 per day (online booking not available yet). Private hotels and lodges also provide accommodation. It is advised to book the accommodation in advance as the place attracts devotees throughout the year. Temple provides accommodation options for the devotees who want to have the accommodation. Online bookings are not done for this Temple accommodation, one as to book the accommodation on the spot.
